Is anyone else having a problen down shiftying into first gear?
I've owned Harleys for years. Built'em rebult'em and sold em. I bought a 2003 V-ROD my first new bike ever. First bike I ever owned that I didn't rebuild before riding. I loved the test model, brought this one home and at first thought it was me. My old bike is an 82 FLH Police Special belt drive.
I', over 500 miles on it and it's getting worse.
Doesn't matter if it's hot or cold.
I come to a stop and the shifter will not get out of second gear.
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if it got better with mileage.
I hate to take it back to the dealer in prime riding season. Not to mention a 3 week wait time for an appointment.
Guess I just don't trust anyone else workin on my stuff

I have a similar problem with my 2003 V-ROd. Sometimes when it is in neutral at a stop light, I can't shift down into first gear. The sales person told me before I ever even rode the bike that this might happen and it is normal. Don't know if it is normal or not, but he was right about it happening. To get it to shift into first gear, I usually just roll the bike forward a few inches and then shift into first.

Same problem. It is working fine after two visits to the dealer. Mine wouldn't downshift until I put a slight up movement on the shifter for each gear. This was not good if the stop was going to be a panic/emergency stop! It's been fine for almost a year now.
