I just recently bought a 2001 Buell Blast. I will have to say I am very disappointed with alot of things with this bike. To start with my battery started to leak all over wich began to eat up my frame and has to be replaced, as well as the wireing harness is also in need of replacement, and tire cover, and a few other small parts. And this all comes about because the battery placement design is the worst I have ever seen. How could you possibly put a battery on it's side and think it wouldn't leak. The battery is not even a completely sealed unit. And because of a poor design this all has to come out of my pocket. And another thing the speedometer while going down the road just decided to die. Isn't that nice. My bike has about 1300 miles. And if you took it for a ride you wouldn't even know it because it sounds like the valves are going to come flying out of the engine. Gee what a nice ride not. Thanks for your time reply please.

Sorry, Hilander, no problems here. For the battery, I did buy a piece of plastic and encased the battery a little more, but that's it.

I am a recent owner, I ride a 97 springer classic, and bought a buell to teach my girlfriend. I have had no problem with the battery. The bike is noisey at 2300 miles there is a lot of engine tinging going on. And one time after filling up the tank and switching the fuel reserve switch back, it would stall when releasing the clutch for a minute, then no problem. I do like the bike and am having fun so far. The price is well worth the ride.

One thing to look at is the rocker cover gasket. I recently purchased a 2001 Blast and at 700 miles, the original gasket leaked everywhere!

It turns out for newer versions of the bike, they changed the gasket from the earlier paper type to a metal gasket.

I complained to Harley about it, got no-where, kind of odd that they upgraded the gasket, but are not willing to admit there was a probelm with the old gaskets!

It shouldn't have stalling problems. I have a 2001 and also have a Yahoo Group dedicated to the Buell Blast (join). As for defects, the rocker box cover will begin to leak oil oneday, probably after 4k miles. The remedy is a new style metal gasket, then no more leaks. This is a reliable bike ! BTW- I'm from cental Pennsy, I have two Blasts...

No problems with the battery on either Blast I've owned. The first one lost it's life due to a drunk driver, but the new one is prim, proper, and runs great. The only things you might encounter are 1) overfill the oil, it will leak lightly through the air filter, 2)the vibration (it's a single cylinder, after all) might losen the fuses. Other than that, they're tough little beasties. The first one had been dropped by her first owner with no real damage.

i bought one because at $2,750.00 i have to say you can't get more bike than this. i put vance and hines pipe and jet kit. bike runs real strong. just got the rocker leak a week ago must be going around. not looking forward to fixing it. because if i take it apart why not do a ported head, cam and jims lifters. very surprised at all the after market parts available.the first one i looked at would not idle and had only 500 miles on it.
