| I am a begining rider who has never ridden a bike. I have rode dirt bikes and atv's. I am considering purchasing a bike and i am wondering what size and type would be a good starter bike but still leave me time to grow into it. Any opinions on the kawasaki vulcan 800 classic or yamaha v-star classic. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am 5'9" 160
thanks

| Dennis, my wife, who had never ridden before last year (age 46), decided on a middleweight cruiser. She looked at the Vulcan 800 classic, the 650 v star classic, and the Honda Shadow 750 ACE. She chose the ACE, and she absolutely loves it. The Kawasaki is a great bike, but the factory saddle on the Honda fits her a bit better, and I'd say the quality of fit & finish is significantly better on the Honda. Her last choice was the v-star. It was underpowered compared to the other two, it made more engine noise, the handling was poorer, and it was significantly more expensive for scheduled maintenanance than either of the other two. Buy the one that fits you best, but be sure to ride them all if you can. Good luck.
