I have a few concerns about my new 2002 FXDXT .Anybody out there w/a 2002 Dyna Glide that can enlighten me ? #1 : The front brakes make a dragging noise at any speed all the time when moving ( will stop if I apply them lightly while driving)I can't believe this is normal .Anyone w/ a similar experience/solution,etc? #2: If I am at a stop light, etc and put the trans in neutral ,then shift into first when I am ready to go, sometimes it is not in gear and I have to shift down again to engage. Yes, I am shifting into first properly & firmly, it just does not go into gear. Never happens from any gear except neutral. Anybody w/ a similar experience/answer/etc ??? Bike only has a few hundred miles on it. I plan on taking to dealer eventually for service but thought I would ask the masses. Thanks...........Steve

Steve,
I have a 2001 T sport.Hve close to 9000 miles on it.What you are describing is not normal.
I am sure that Harley will make it right.
I really love my T sport.
It is one of the best bikes I have ever had.

I have a 2002 T-Sport, and the break thing is definitely not right. Mine definitely doesn't do this. As for the transmission thing, this is what mine does as well. Give it a little throttle with shifting into first with the clutch in and it should go into first. Otherwise, drift the bike a little and it will drop in. This is because the gears aren't aligned (according to harley). This has decreased as I drive it more either because the trans loosened up, or because I'm used to it and it doesn't happen anymore. You should be able to here if the gears engage or not.
Hope this helps.

Not sure if its normal, but my 2002 FXDXT exhibits the same brake noise and false shift issue. It doesn't seem to affect function or reliability (5K miles and counting), so I just assumed it to be a HD idiosyncracy. Overall, the bike has been fantastic despite the little quirks.

My 2001 Dyna Glide has the same "problems". The shifting got better with milage (10k). For the front brake noise the dealer said to clean the pads and rotor then chamfer the leading edge of the brake pad.

Steve,
My 2001 T-sport makes the whistling noise at 50MPH and above. That is my only complaint. I am attempting to see where the whistling is coming from, but no luck so far. I would like to know if anyone has solved this problem as well. Thanks.

Steve,
I have identical problems with the breqaks and trans. Local HD PHDs say it IS NORMAL and also suggested the break cleaning mentioned above. Still noisy at 3,000 miles. The trans is getting better but I still have to first hit 2nd gear out of neutral and then down to 1st. I will lean on the dealer a LOT during the next service call. They all say it's "break-In."

Whistling noise??? Yes... at about 55 mph. I have to adjust the windshield "forward" a but to cut the wind noise. I will be trying their larger windshield for more protection at some point. -RonM-

To Jeff & Ron (and anyone else interested) I fixed the whistling from the windshield by installing the accessory taller windshield .The whistle stopped because I don't have to crank open the shield as much to get proper wind deflection at speed(I still get a little whistle at high speed only if the shield is cranked full-open which is not necessary much now). Also, I don't get all the wicked buffetting at the top of my head like I did w/ the stock shield.Much nicer riding w/ the taller windshield ( I am 6').Steve

there is allways going to be a bit of drag sound from disc brakes because they are always rubbing on the rotors. maybe you have more sensative ears . the only time i can hear mine is when im coasting with the engine off. as far as not going into gear [1 st], try a slightly firmir faster tap on the shifter. my fxdx did this for a while, but it has stopped after some miles were put on it. if you want to get it shifting smoother, dump the crap lube in the primary and the trans. install 75-90 synthetic gear lube and you wont believe how much better it will shift. put a whole quart in the primary. the clutch will work much better. you wont be able to hear the chain anymore too.
