| They say the Rebel is a legend... but I haven't been able to find out about it's true power output (some people say it is about 17 HP) but I find that kind of hard to believe because the people at Honda say it's maximum power output is 55 HP. Please let me know if you know something that can help me on this. Please remember that I'm talking 2003-2004 models, not previous. Thank you in advance!

| 55 horses from a rebel????? I find that pretty incredible. Even race tuned 2 stroke 250's dont produce much more power than that. A shadow 750 (750cc v-twin) only puts out around 45 or so HP and it pulls a lot stronger than a rebel. I think maybe Honda was giving you figures for a different bike, or else a highly tuned one-off rebel. But I am not sure why anyone would highly tune a rebel..................

| I just checked a couple of websites. This one, http://www.motorcycle.com/mo/mccompare/250/spex.html has dyno charts for a nighthawk 250 which shares the same engine with the rebel. It shows a little shy of 15 HP at the rear wheel. Another site I checked quoted 16HP for the actual rebel, so 17 may even be a little generous.

| | The rebel may be a legend, but not because of it's HP. I've tweaked a few mods here and there (after-market carb, high octane booster, etc) on my rebel and never got above 22 HP on the dyno. Bone stock HP was 16-17, depending on octane at the pump. I've thought about custom pipes, but it isn't worth the expense and would require constant tuning. BTW, the reason behind the "legend" status, is a high profile court battle between Honda and H-D over the look of the Rebel. The result caused the demise of the Rebel 650cc and is the primary reason why today's Rebel has such a small displacement engine. But the fact that the Rebel survived the court battle, even with conditions, is what made the bike famous. Only time will tell if its a legend. If you're the type to cheer for the under dog, then you gotta love the Rebel! |

| Check out the website www.motorbikes.be then do a search on "Rebel". There the specs say "Power = 17,4 hp (12.7 kW) @ 8250 rpm" and "Torque = 17.3 Nm @ 5500 rpm".
I also own a Rebel and 17hp for a 233cc 4 stroke engine sounds about right. If you want more power is simple, get a motorcycle with a bigger engine, modifications on stock engines won't give much extra power anyway. For me the Rebel is a fine ride; is agile, cheap to operate and maintain. Happy Riding!
