Hi everyone! I just bought my first bike...a 1999 Honda Rebel. I purchased it from a friend who only put 1500 miles on it before putting it in storage for the last 5 years. With this extended length of storage, I realize that there is some maintenance that will be required before I start her up. I don't have a key yet, and I assume I can take the VIN to a shop and they can duplicate one...if not, let me know how I can remedy this. Also, I don't yet have physical possession of the title. Will I have to have the title before I get a key made? Now, for my next question: I know that the gas must be drained, and I also want to put in fresh oil. I pulled off the little tube that goes from the on/off/rev key switch -> carburator. However, nothing came out. Since I don't have a key, I can't unlock the gas cap and check for sure if there is gas in it. I shook the bike, and didn't hear any sloshing, so I assume there is no gas in it. I guess my question is: Was the correct tube to pull? Should I be looking for something else? Not even a drop came out. And, my final question: in trying to drain/change the oil, I was unable to come across the plug. I easily found the dipstick, but the plug is no where to be seen. Also, I can't find the oil filter. If anyone could help me answer these questions, and get a new enthusiast on the road, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any help.
