| What is the top speed of the vulcan 800's.Does having a chain instead of a shaft make for more maint time and cost? Does the chain take away from the bike being a long distance ,reliable bike?

| i had a 99 800 classic, been up to 105 mph. i've also been on long trips on it. chains can be a little more messy, but mine lasted 14000 miles. not bad. don't know top speed, but fast enough. only regret, selling it. wish i had back.

| Had mine up 112mph and still picking up speed. completely stock ecxept for the Vane&Hines slash cut cruiser pipes.(nice) Now that I have the fire and steel full size windshield high speed is out of the question, as it affects high speed handling. As far as the chain try some of the chain waxes instead of oil/grease. Follow instructions and enjoy a clean ride.

| Speed?
Chain will take more abuse. For general use; shaft requires less maintenance; periodic lubricant change. Chain maintenance is minor; oil (if not auto) and periodic tension adjust.
Chain does not detract from LD reliability. |

| I have had mine up above 100 mph, and I am big guy (220 lbs.). Seemed like that's about all it wanted to do.
Chains are definitely higher maintenance than a shaft, but less torque loss with a chain.
Chain does not take away from long term reliabilitly one bit, they just need adjusted periodically. Worse case scenario, chains are much cheaper to replace than a shaft is to have repaired should something happen.

| I just replaced my chain and sprockets after 14000 miles I put a 39 tooth on rear it gives me better gas mileage and taller gears the motor rev's lower (3900 rpm @ 75mph) feels like you get a extra gear.

| I have a 2000 vulcon 800, with 6200 miles on it. Just broke in. Had it up to 109, with more to go. There a real go getter. Dixiesage@yahoo.com

| You 800 will easily do 110 MPH maybe a littl;e more depending on the mods and its present state of tune as far a chain is concerend over a shaft drive Yes Maintenance is a given however a little kerosene on a brush will remove a lot of the crud and re-apply a chain wax for trouble free lubrication without nasty fling off! The 800 is one of the most trouble free and dead reliable bike out there!!

| Well not braging at all, I have had my Vulcon 800 up to 110 already, and plenty of power left to pig it out and then some. I prefer a chain as I can fix them very easy with spare links I always carry with me.
