| I am in the same place.. The DRZ or the KLX. did you get any good advise. Have you made the choice. I like the KLX but fear it will be topped out on the road at 60 65 MPH.

| I have a 2006 KLX250S and a 2003 KLX400SR sitting in the garage at this time. I bought the 400 a couple years ago, a down-sized from a KLR650. I wanted something lighter and more off-road oriented. A few months ago I had the sprockets and chain replaced, I had it geared down a little to make it run on the dirt a little better. While I liked it better off road, I feel I lost too much on the hardball. Before the sprocket change I could run 70mph, and now I have a hard time running anywhere near 60.
I got the idea I needed something even easier to handle off-road and started thinking about the KLX250S. It seemed to have pretty good reviews and wasn't too expensive. Oddly enough I jumped on EBay one Monday morning and found a guy in town selling one. He was on short final for a deployment and we worked out a great deal. So far its an awesome bike. One major benefit is the 6 speed gearbox. It runs smooth.
Now for the tricky part, I need to sell one. I am planning on getting the wife a late 60's Mustang for her birthday and figure one of the bikes will cover half the cost, plus the garage is a little tight.
Getting back on track for the topic, I have no idea which one to get rid of. I took both out yesterday in a vacant wooded area, and I love both bikes. The 400 has more raw power on the take-off but the 250 is lighter and easier to maneuver. I wish I could say I really disliked one of them, it would make it easier....
I just wish I could hang on to both.

This is as much a personal choice as anything else. It may also depend somewhat upon your size since the Suz sits about 2 inches higher, which makes it difficult for some to ride it. It's also about 30 lbs heavier. Under most....again, "most" riding conditions, the Kawi will do everything the Suz does as well, sometimes even better. I'm not sure of each one's top speed, but they can't be more than 8-10 mph apart...should be in the 70-80 range. Changing the gearing will also change those results, but may not been needed. Again, it depends on your size and has a lot to do with where you'll be doing your riding. While I raced Suz mx'ers for years, I happen to like this Kawi over this Suz for general playing around because of its overall handling and fun-factor. Mechanically, they should each be great. The Suz has a slightly bigger gas tank, but also burns slightly more fuel. But, all of this is just my own opinion and some may see it otherwise. Most important, make it YOUR choice for those reasons that are most important to YOU. They're both good bikes. Good luck. |
