I would love to get the directions to make my son's JR50 a 2 speed. The bike is pathetic off the line and I often have to push him to get him going.

Thanks,
JC

I sent Jeff the 'How-to' and this was his reply:

I got it done... One word:

BRILLIANT!!!

Unbelievable! It went from a bike that I started to dread to a bike that I love. After my wife and I test drove it for a while, we finally let my son (just turned 4) give it a crack. I put the training wheels back on and let him go. It took him about 30 seconds to figure out the gears. I took him to an empty lot that had some loose dry dirt/sand in which he would normally get stuck in and I would end up pushing him out. This time was different, he was spinning his real wheel throwing dirt and giving out bit belly laughs. He soon disovered the fine art of making donuts. He couldn't get enough. Hilarious!

What Suzuki is thinking is beyond me. If they wanted to lock out a gear, they should have locked out 2nd gear. I'd much prefer it maxing out at about 15mph and it having enough torque so that he can ride safely in the dirt and grass, instead of him only being able to ride on pavement and it maxing out at 25mph+. Bizarre.

Thanks again, this has cured a year long headache!

Jeff
