As to the 1000 vs the 650. The big advantage of the 1000 is power. high speed highway riding, two up riding or any type of riding where you need more power the 1000 is better. The 650 handles better, gets better gas mileage and cruises up to 110 with one rider with ease. I prefer the handling/economy/versatility of the 650 over the 1000 but I own the 650. For better information go to vstrom.info. The page links to the v-strom web forum and has some articles that compare the 1000 to the 650. As to pictures of bags or a good bag resource go to www.amotostuff.com (the site organizes stuff by bike) and look around there are several bag options and most of them have pictures. I would check out the forum mentioned above for more info. I personally own (2) Givi E45N cases as my side bags. They are basic in terms of styling but they are large and fit all of the stuff I need for a week.

I hope this helps,

BUY THE 650 THE 1000 JUST WEIGHS MORE, NOT A REAL PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGE OVER THE 650.

This answer may be too late. My recommendation is to go for the 650. Lighter and MUCH safer and more stable. I rode the 1000 and found that (i) the brakes are underpowered for the engine, and (ii) the engine torque is not really smooth and you may find yourself losing control during acceleration in curves. Overall, the 1000 is not a very friendly machine. For luggage, go for the Givi set, but avoid the 52 liter top case, it's too big and compromises aerodinamics.
