I live in California and the traffic on my commute to work can be heavy. I was trying to find out from an owner if the fact that the engine is air cooled would cause me problems in traffic that could be avoided by getting a higher tech bike with liquid cooling. In other words is my engine going to be overheating on me and I have to pay through the nose to fix it.

I don't think this will be an issue unless you live in a very hot climate. Remember it's not just air cooled, but oil cooled as well. After break-in, switch to synthetic oil which should help alot.

It has a buit-in oil cooler that is good for w moving bike. But to get the best answer to your question, you should contact Triumph directly via their customer service. Or, you can speak to a local dealer. Since most Triumphs are air-cooled, if their is a problem, other models will also reflect that problem.

This is a GOOD and very relevant question. Overheating with an oil cooled engine leads to oil pressure buildup and leakage. You will leak oil if you overheat. And if it is Sythetic, then you will leak expensive oil. Your leaks can lead to premature engine wear AND repairs, some of which may be covered by the warranty. POint is if you live in a hot environment, your concern is quite valid.

No, it si well made and it will not overheat even in a very hot climate. Then the water colling may be a biger problem.

What? No! This bike can over heat no matter the weather people. My friends let there bikes warm up. It was 45F, not very cold, not tshirt weather either. 05 Bonneville, 05 Thruxton. The header pipes where glowing red after ten mins.

The oil cooler works best when the bike is moving, getting air.

Also the Air Injector, header wrap, ceramic pipes make the bike temp higher.

If I was stuck in traffic more than 5 minutes I would shut my Triumph Thruxton off. But if I was on my honda shadow I would let it run so my fan will kick on to cool the radiator. Unless I was sitting a really long time.

The Triumph bikes are over build, under priced, and highly dependable. I wouldn't worry about traffic.
