| Hello all, Just picked up a 2000 Sabre (Love it so far!), though I just went through my first tank of gas, and only got about 109 miles on it. The bike has 21k miles on it, I read a few posts saying this has been seen in breakin.. I am a fairly new rider 4 days now and this is my first bike. I am assuming this is pretty low, Anyting I should be looking at?
Thanks,
Bob

| I get about this mileage (35mpg or so) on my 2001 Sabre, but I know for a fact that mny is jetted too rich, using more gas than is necessary. Does your bike have aftermarket pipes, if so, it was probably jetted too rich. Pull your plugs and see if they are dark colored.

| | I've noticed something about the reserve. I've run to reserve numerous times on an 04 and never was able to squeeze more than 3.2 gallons back into the tank. Measure your mileage by how much gas you put back in, and not the spec size. The specs all say "4.2 gallon including .6 reserve", so I should be hitting reserve at 3.6 gallon. I'm hopeing the 3.2 means I have a 1.0 gallon reserve. This weekend I'm going to run to reserve and then drain the rest and measure it. Gotta know. |

| | Actual fuel capacity: I ran my 04 Sabre to reserve this weekend while carrying a small gas can and a 3ft drain tube with me. I pulled into a gas station and drained the rest of the reserve till the tank was bone dry (about 1/2 gal came out). I then pumped to full and registered 3.8 gallons. As I can never get more than 3.2 gal in it when I hit reserve, this is consistent with the .6 gal reserve listed in the specs. So, 'actual' tank capacity is 3.8 gal 'including' a .6 gal reserve. (The mystery is finally solved!) |
