My 2006 virago 250 is difficult to shift first to second after highway cruising. it seems fine during normal street driving. Any ideas?

Nothing comes to mind....I've had a little stickiness going from first to second sometimes, but nothing to make me worry. Check clutch/cable.

Try changing the oil. New engines (and transmissions) take a little while to loosen up.
Try adjusting the shift lever up or down to accomodate the natural swing of your foot and the rest position.
Also the clutch cable freeplay is important.
