I'm in the market for a new bike and can't decide between the V-Rod, or the Indian Scout... Any opinions?

As a matter of fact, HD-Fans are reacting very slowly to new influences. But it must be allowed even to HD to present a bike, wich technic is not more than 20 years old, even if it hurts those, who have spent several thousands of Dollars in buying covers of chrome and stuff like that - in the only wish, to have a Softail, which is unique.... and then discovering at the next street, that somone else has spent 1.000.-- Dollar more in a full chrome Teddybear on the backseat.

It's getting more and more boring, to drive a bike, which has only one reason to exist: exibition between Softails and E-Glides bought in the same reason. After owning a HD a while, it getting more and more boring, because there is nothing more to customize or you simply can't afford it. And don't forget: Nobody ever seriously claimed HD-Bikes as Bikes, that have a fantastic handling or excellent engineering. It was trendy to own it a long time. And I'm shure, most HD-Owners will make friendship with the new V-Rod after some time.

He is writing: "No torque this German-Engineered V-Rod!" Did he ever rode it? I don't think so.... I owned a Heritage and two Road Kings - and it knocked me out, when I drove the V-Rod first time!!! A fantastic motor, it is a poem with the Sreaming Eagle-Package, endless torque, handling like a bicycle...and what a styling, wow!!!! I bought it at once and never regreted it. He says: "no durability of the frame finish, dull-ass silver color" Man, what planet you're living? In alu anodized you have a styling never seen before - and how easy, to restyle it with a new paintjob it is! Screw off the fenders in ten minutes and the tankcover and take it to be painted as you like and change the look of the bike every year. Very easy! How well planned the bike is: Without enormous costs you can have a 200er tire - ask somone who had a Softail! And the frame? No problem with it - why should there problems?

And place that bike next to a $ 40.000.-- Softail - the people will look at the V-Rod and can't get their mouth closed. It is so boring, looking at this Heritages with all that useless covers and chrome here an there.

And what a feeling, when you're able to overtake a car - no one knew before that works with a harley.

In a few years most Harleys will have the new motor and produced for a new additional line of Touringbikes and only for some forever in the past living HD will produce the Evo. And then owning a 100 Year model of HDs first step into a new dimension will be a bike, that is sold very easy.

At all: The V-Rod is a powerbike with an enormous funpotential and it makes even more fun, when you're cruising with your HD-friends and driving circles arround them, while they are trying to get the next corner. And even more, when you are looking in the mirror after 3,5 seconds and after one minute more they reach you with tears in their eyes.

Just look at the dates and everyone will know, what a "German-Engineered V-Rod" can do. Just smile!

They are such totally different bikes. It's like asking if you should buy a Ferrari or a Hummer.

If you're looking for classic styling, looks and sound, go with the Indian. But if you're looking for absolutely kick-ass power, speed, and modern styling, go with the V-Rod. Test ride them both, and make up your own mind. They're both great bikes in their own ways.

Indian has ceased production (again) pending a possible bankruptcy. So unless you find one used - and are willing to deal with a potential orphaned bike - the VROD looksl like the way to go.
