I have'nt riden a large bike for probably 15 yrs, would the VTX1800 be too heavy to restart on ,or should i be choosing either the VTX1300 or VT1100 Sabre. I,m 47 yrs old, and 5'10" high.

I just finished a test ride on a VTX1800. It ran well and was steady as a rock going down the highway. It wasn't as much fun whan it came to low speed handling around a lot of stop signs. This machine likes to take it's turns as wide as it can. It was a great machine for going out of town but not so great for comimg back.

I am 46 yr.old and have just returned
to riding after 25 yrs.I just bought a
year old 1800 vtx. You will have no problem riding it. I am 6' tall and I
have no problem since the bike seat
is only 27 inches from the ground. The only thing you may want to do is get
a 4 in. riser kit to bring the bars
back a bit. I have to reach forward with
my arms fairly straight to handle the
bike. Great bike, loads of power. If you don't like the looks and attention
from people, don't buy one.

I am 59 years, and had not ridden much in 30 years. Back then I had a 650 BSA lightning. About 2 years ago I got a 700 Honda Shadow. I bought the VTX 1800 in January of 2003, and was really afraid to drive it homne never having driven anything near this big. (1100cc larger than my old bike.) It was not a problem - as a matter of fact the VTX1800 is easier to handle and drive then my 700 shadow. The VTX is a great bike no reason to be afraid of it.

I just started riding a Gold Wing after a 15 year break and I am five years older. Not really a problem--partly depends on if you are willing to keep yourself in shape. I don't think the size of the VTX 188 will be a big deal. I am think of adding a crusier and both 1300 and 1800 are candidates.

You'll find the 1800 is not as nimble in slow speeds as some others like a 250 dirt bike, afterall it is 825 lbs. wet. However, it's a wonderful bike, very easy to drive down the road. I've got you beat on age and I'm 5'10" and returned to riding two years ago. Try to take a rider safety course like MSF and check out Jerry "Motorman" Palladino web site and video training and you'll master slow speed operation...but you have to practice (that's a message to me too)!!! I'm very happy with my move up to the VTX1800 and I think you will be too.

This would depend largely on what type of riding you intend doing. If you're not sure about whether you can handle the bigger bike, the mechanics are the same for either size. Go with the 1800 and you won't find yourself pining for more 'oomph' down the road.

I have a 2003 VTX 1800R (Retro) and I am 5'-8" tall and 180 lbs. I don't have any trouble managing the 1800. It is a heavy bike, but like any bike, once you ride it some, you will get used to it. It does want to turn quickly when you are starting in a turn. Take it slow at first. I considered getting a VTX 1300 or even an 1100 Honda or Yamaha, but didn't think I would be satified unless I bought the "biggest one". Glad I did. Only have about 1500 miles on my bike and with a few modifications ( De-Smog mod and exhaust mod) and after adding some accessories (windshield, highway crash bars, several small chrome items), I am very happy with my decision. Get the biggest bike you can. You won't be sorry. I would suggest going to a VTX chat site to ask questions and see what other people say about the VTX bikes. The best site for the VTX 1800 bikes is: http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=3&topicdays=0&start=50
