| I am about to buy a 1983 honda cb1000 custom, I want to know what the gas milage is on this bike and how much it's really worth. It's been dropped at least once and there are noticable scraches plus the paint has faded a little. The person selling it is asking 1500 for it. do you think that this is a fair price?

| I'd say it is not bad... $1200 would be a great price, though. As long as all the body work is present even if in need of some paint or fiberglass work. I just bought a decent one just to ride. It's missin both sidecovers and I found that they are discontinued and just watched a used lsft side cover on E-Bay go for almost $168. So if it has the parts, I'd take care of them and repair as possible. The bike is 23 years old..... if it hadn't been dropped or have scratches, he's be asking more like $2800-3200. I saw a nice one, again on E-Bay, go for a buy-it-now price of $2650 pretty quick.

| Rob,
I paid $1500 for mine in mint condition but I was lucky. These are great bikes but I have NOT had good gas mileage but that does not bother me too much. The bike is worth it. Western Hills Honda has parts.

| check the bike over. After all you are looking at a 23 year old bike. I gave more for mine. $2300. an 83 cb1000 custom fully dressed. 34k mi. I seen 2 sell on ebay for over $2800 The bike retailed new for $3700
This bike does require regular maintainance. Valve adj/check at about 4K mi. Let it be known these engines have shims to adj valves. Excellent bikes butt don't let the routine maintaince slip. It could get costly.
I suggest you do a compression test. Dry and wet (pour abt 1 oz of oil into spark plug hole) If the compression does not increase 10-20psi rings are good. If compression does jump up...
Factory is 175psi

| I accelerate hard and fast. Run 70mph and weigh 220. Bike is full dress and gets 44mpg.
