Thanks

oil cooled one less fluid to check, liquid cooled lower operating engine temp. increase performance

Water cooled has a larger water jacket around the cylinders compared to oil cooled. That reduces the cooling effeciency of the cylinder head fins should the water system fail, fully or partially. If the water coolent system fails fully, the head fins won't be able to dissipate the engine heat entirely on their own. With oil cooled, the fins are part of the cooling system (if the oil system fails, one has much bigger problems). Water cooled has moving parts such as a water pump and associated moving parts. There is higher maintenance with water cooled. One debate is which cooling type provides greater performance. But since manufactures design an engine with a cooling type in mind, any negative effect on performance is negated by the final design. Logic suggests that since the engine requires oil anyway, why not use it to cool the engine cylinders as well, and even the transmission. However, oil cooled engines require a better grade of oil as well as a quart or more extra. In the end, either performs as well as the other and it comes down to maintenance, the chance of failure and, of course, what cooling design a desired bike comes with.
