I don't think I would want a bigger tank. My bike gets 70+ mpg on the highway. After 150 miles, I am ready to take a break anyway so why not go ahead and fill it up then? I am sure that you could find SOMETHING bigger than what you have now if you really want to. But I love the way my bike looks and wouldn't change a thing.

I have heard so much about the "small" tank on these bikes that I have to speak up. With the gas millage that these bikes get, they are not that much "smaller" than the big five gallon tanks on the monster bikes. It all works out in the wash. We get damn good gas millageand the boys who think they have to ride a monster get crappy gas millage. There is really not that much difference in how far one or the other can go before having to fill up again. This tank holds 2.9 gallons. On the highway doing roughly 60 MPH, I can go right at 215 miles. Take one of the 1300s or the 1800s which are lucky to get 35 to 45 MPG and with their five gallon tank they will be able to go - 175-225 miles before they too have to fill back up as opposed to my 200-215 miles. The gas tank size is appropriate to the motor size.

Mick Lail, are you claiming you get over 70 mpg when riding 60 mph? I find that hard to believe. I get around 62 mpg and most of my riding is on the interstates to and from work. In fact, I ran out of gas at 263 miles to the tank, but that was mostly 75 mph riding.

Thanks.

Harvey

I only get 50 MPG since new. 2001. Makes me mad my wife gets 70 MPG from her Rebel. Yes, I need a bigger tank.

You are so funny.

You just said that I could not be getting 70 MPG and then you say you went 263 miles on one tank.

The tank on the 600 holds 2.9 gallons. 263 divided by 2.9 gallons is almost 91 MPG. LOL

Yes Harvey, I did get 70 MPG many times with my VLX 600. Most of the time it was between 65 and 70 with a few times pushing around 72. I don't know why it got such good gas milage, but I know how to divide.

Believe it or not, doesn't matter to me.

I now have a 98 750 ACE and only get around 48-50 MPG. I wish I had kept the 600.

I love this conversation. The overall conclusion thought, is that 50mpg is good enough so enjoy your ride an remember that you need to take a break once in a while anyway.
