| I know that my 2002 KAWASAKI ZRX-1200 is a rocket ship, but when I cruise at 80 MPH, the traffic seems to keep up with me. At 5,000 RPM, my speedo shows 90 MPH in top gear. I guess my speed is only at approximately 80 MPH. I think my speedo is way out of "adjustment". Question # 1: Can the Speedometer be adjusted by the owner, or only by a specialized shop, or not at all?
Question # 2: Does anyone know, what the proper MPH should equate to 5,000 RPM in top gear? Sometimes engine speeds are published at a given MPH rating, but I don't recall seeing one for this model. I could calculate the MPH at any RPM once I know at list one correlation. Thank you in advance. Attila

| Attila, My 2002 Suzuki Bandit 1200 is geared very similarly to your bike and the tire sizes are identical and it is traveling 70 mph at 4000 rpm. That would be about 87.5 mph at 5000 rpm, so your speedo doesn't seem to be that far off.

| i have a zx7r which redlines at 12 or 12.5 and 70 mph im around 4400 rpm or so......it seems to me especially here in california that people just drive fast! so i think your speedo reads accurate . i get passed up quite a bit by cars...but in the last 2 years i have not gotten a speeding ticket !!

| Attila, I just purchased a 2002 ZXR1200R last weekend. With only 200 miles on it and a 4000-rpm limit due to the break in, I'm doing about 74-75 mph. So it looks like your speedometer is working just fine. I don't think they'll tweak the speedometer on the high end. If this was the case, I'll think you'll read about it in the reviews.

| I don't have specs on this particular bike, but my Harley Sportster does the same thing- very annoying. There's a few different options available to you. One is to put a bicycle computer (the panorama by Topeak) will give you very accurate results and actually has a motorcycle application and mounts (quite handsome)- Two, you can adjust the speedo; there's several calibration tools that will allow you to do this- or Three (and my personal favorite) just buy a decent handheld GPS, then you can not only VERY accurately track your speed, but where you are, where you've been and where you're going- along with marking gasoline stops etc. Another advantage of the GPS is that it records this information so Johnny Law can't bust you for speeding if you really weren't (though this can also be your undoing... ).

| I would think that the most accurate way to determine your spedo calibration is to travel at 60 mph and see how long it takes you to go from one mile marker to the next. My limited experiance is that most bike spedometers read 10% too fast, (It may be a government requirement).

| | It is a well know and documented fact among owners 'the speedos are all 10% high'. When it says 90 mph you're really going 81 . Just get used to it or install a correction kit. Tony P. |

| I have an '02 'S'.
3400rpm is 100kph
4000rpm is about 120kph.
I haven't sustained 5000rpm in top - that's pretty quick touring.
