| Would appreciate hearing from anyone who owns this bike (and model year) likes/dislikes, maintenance costs/frequency, performance, etc. Thanks,
Russ

I have a 99RT. I don't have many dislikes about my RT. The only 2 downsides I can think of are the seat comfort and if you are taller then 6'2" I would suggest investing in cruising pegs. I use my RT for travel and my knee get cramped riding for long periods of time. Over 2 hours or more. I would suggest purchasing a custom seat if you plan on doing long trips on your RT. I do all the maintenance on my bike. This was one of the reasons for purchasing the bike. Very easy to work on. I change the oil every 6k miles and all 3 fluids every 12k miles. If you talk to any old BMW rider they say if you change the oil every 6k the bike will last you. My local BMW dealer charges less for shop maintenance then my local harley dealer so you can take that for what it is worth. Parts can be expensive but if you shop around you can generally do better than the local dealer. Dealer charges $35 for a set of break pads. I found them online for $25. I put more than 19k miles on my RT the first year and am really happy with everything about it. I would purchase another one in the future. |
