| Hey Bud, I had a '98 800A that I recently sold. Good bike. I had put a set of Cobra pipes on it and under a "friends" advice did not rejet it. It ran fine but would eat one or two sets of plugs a season. The pipes discolored pretty bad right at the heads, but the chrome cover that came with the pipes covered that pretty well. Finally I had it rejetted and that fixed the problem with smoking the plugs but I didn't notice any huge increase in power or gas mileage. The pipes themselves gave the bike a really nice thump at lower speeds but at higher RPM's the sound turns to a loud hum which I personally found annoying on a long highway ride. Good luck and ride safe.

I've done this to my bike, and it's fantastic. Much less $$ than custom pipes, and no re-jetting required.
drop me a line if you need suggestions.

| | Hey Bud just yank out the baffles, I did mine and it sounds great. It also helped that wonderful backfire problem you might have noticed... Just drill out the rivets, remove plate, drill consecutive 1/4" hole all around the weld till nothing is holding (chisel might help) and yank wiggle and yank some more... excess metal will clean up with a 2" grinding wheel for a drill (sears). Finish off with some high heat black spray paint. I haven't had any plug problems. Friend with honda did. if so kuryakyn has a jet kit for around $25 |

| the only way if you want to keep your original pipes and dont want to rejet is. drill out the outer baffles at the rear of the pipes.there are inner baffles in more so you wont get to ear blasting, just enough to let people ear ya.

| cut the baffles out and clean up the back area of the pipes with a die grinder. You will not need to rejet cuz of the inner baffling and it will be a much better sound
