Is there any motorcycles out there for comparison for the Buell Blast in the standard or sport category (over a 10 year
period) that you would consider to be overall cheaper to own (i.e., more fuel efficient, less maintenance...etc.) ?

In sportbike cat., the ninja 500 (2 cylinder in-line). In a crusier type; the Suzuki s40 boulevard (used to be the Savage). The S40 is a 650cc thumper that has been in production since the mid-80s. Some have ridden them to almost 100,000 miles. I used to own one and found it very low maintenance and a reliable bike.
The only change in it's 20 year production run is a addition of a 5th gear back in the mid-nineties, although it has also had a few cosmetic changes.

The Kawasaki EX500, Ninja 500, and the Suzuki GS500 or GS500F are all 100 times better than this piece of junk. If you buy the Blast, I hope you have a boat, and need an anchor.

If I were to consider another thumper then my choice would still be the BMW 650GS,CS Dakar or Aprilla Pegaso. You pay more up front but have a lot better machine in the long run .The Rotax engine has plenty of umph and an endless supply of speed goodies from Ron Wood and other manufacturers if you are so inclined.I have logged over 80k on my Beemer 650GS.Too bad you got sucked into a Harley dealer

I have had my '03 for three seasons, have had no problems except needing new tires a little sooner than I'd like. I haven't ridden any of the other 500s listed - I'm too short - so I can't comment. However, the Blast has been cheap insure, maintain (*all* it has needed is tires & oil changes in 11K miles) and run at an average of 70mpg.
