| I was first thinking of buying a 4 stroke bike, but I really like the KDX 220. I have read that after break-in you must pull the top end off and replace the piston and rings! Is this true?
This seems rediculous, if the engine is assemmbled correctly at the factory, why should you pull the engine apart and replace a new piston?

You don't need to pull the top end off. Only the most retentive riders do this. Check out Canadian Dave's JUSTKDX and you'll learn everything you need to know. I just recently purchased my KDX 200 in 12/02. This is a really good bike to start and with minimal modifications to the machine it will grow with you as your skills and abilities increase. I've owned and ridden many dirtbikes, some much more powerful than the KDX 200/220 and I've got to say this is a bike that will keep a smile on your face. I was torn between the 200/220, personally I'd go with the 200 and the $300-400 bucks and use that money for mods (if you want too hop it up a bit). Good luck. |

| All 2 stroke service manuals tell you to do the top end after break in. But people do not do it. No warranty, what diff does it make?

| Actually the KDX 200/220 comes with a 6 month warranty from the factory. A rare offering for a 2 stroke bike (shows what a proven design if the manufacturer backs it!!!). I have a 2004 220 and love it - Going riding at 4 Peaks this morning...

| Removing the headers and piston during breakin doesnt need to be done, the manual recommend it becaus of carbon build up but, if you take it easy on the bike when you first get it and follow the manuals instructions it will be fine
