How fast would someone outgrow this bike? Is speed pickup a problem? 1st time rider < 5 miles to work

It depends on what you want.If you mainly want something to ride to work,is fun,and cheap on gas,you might never outgrow it.Not EVERYBODY wants a huge bike with a million HP.It will keep up with cars in town, but runs out of steam at about 60mph.If you stick to the backroads, you could cross the country on it.If you want something freeway legal, look at the Suzuki GZ250,Honda Rebel 250,or Honda Nighthawk 250.There's also the Yamaha Virago 250.Stay FAR away from anything made in China or Korea.

On this bike? Like what Jerry said, it just depends on what you need it for. I'm just about ready to outgrow my bike, a Kymco Venox 250 ( Taiwanese and a VERY fine bike as well), but then something good happens and my desire to keep my bike stays. As for this bike, the Kaw 125? I'd say that you might outgrow this bike, if you want to move up in the size ladder, in a matter of 3 months of near constant riding. I can't comment on the acceleration since I don't own one, but my bike can easily get to 80+ mph. And as for the commute? With that short of a distance, you might as well get a small scooter. CPI makes a nice 50cc 2-stroke for about $1700, with some inexpensive mods, it can get to 50 mph and 80+ mpg. Plus, you don't need to shift or get a motorcycle licensce. Check out my review on the Kymco Venox to learn more!

I bought my Kawasaki 125 nearly 3 months ago as a starter bike. I have truly loved learning to ride on this bike. As a commuter bike, it is excellent. However, if you have the urge to ride somewhere other than the city streets, such as the interstate, this is not the bike for that. You could definitely get run-over in a hurry! Overall, I would recommend the 125 for your commuter bike.

I've ridden mine for several years. I've had larger bikes up to 1100cc, but this is the one I have kept and riden to work (3 mi) every day the sun shines. I will never sell it. Acceleration is adequate on city streets and freeways up to 55 mph.
