Joe, I know a couple of guys in a group that I ride with who have 883's, one is about your size, maybe a little bigger. They have no problems keeping up, or even taking the lead. It's enough power. If you think you're ready for the 883, don't be intiminated by the 1200, it's the same size, and the extra power is not all that overwhelming. The XL1200/C (custom) is a good choice if you can afford the extra $$$!!!, it gives you a lot of chrome that you,ll want to add later. The 883 is a fine bike it can hold it's own with the big boys.

Joe,
I'm a 5'1" woman and I have a 1200 Sportster. I don't have any problems with it. I think if you get the 883 you will want to move on pretty quickly. If you do go with an 883 go with a used one for a few grand because it won't be long before you are on the 1200.

Female 5'5" 170 and I handle the 1200 just fine. This is my first bike. Go any smaller and you will want bigger very soon.

Joe,
GO ahead and get the 883, Harley can make it a 1200 for $900 more later on...so if you are unhappy with the power you can upgrade for not much money.

At nearly 200 lbs do not dissapoint yourself with the 883. Take it easy and the 1200 will suffice your appetite. Dusty

I had very little bike experience and bought a 1200 custom. Don't be intimidated, it is a great bike. If you get the 883 alll you gonna do is wish you bought the 1200 anyways. It's a fast bike but it is as safe as you ride it. I love mine. Feel free to ask me about it.
