I am thinking about buying a BMW R 1200 RT or an ST1300. Has anyone ridden both or even owned them? How do they compare? Comfort, gas mileage, long range? Are they both equally reliable in the long run?

Also there is a huge difference in price, is the BMW worth it? I like the heated grips and the Cruise on the BMW but these both are available for the ST in aftermarket. So even adding these to the ST it is a whole lot cheaper. I've heard good things about BMW reliablility. But then I have heard that the new bmw "oilheads" are not as reliable as the old "airheads".

I was considering the 12RT and the ST13 also. I took the RT on a 200 mile test ride. Light feel, easy to handle paddling around, super/fun/playful handling, fluttering engaging flat twin motor, easy shifting, very comfy BUT the motor definitely vibrates and you feel it on the highway. For me, it was the 'flaw' that prevented me from buying it. So I bought an ST1300 ABS two weeks ago. Definitely heavier and harder to paddle around and lacking that 'playful' handling and boxer engine character BUT super smooth running, riding, shifting, braking, and overall first class. I'm very confident that I made the right choice for me. On the other hand, if you don't mind the boxer vibes and the price, the RT would make a fine choice. The best analysis is by Guy Bouton "Bamarider" who owns one of each. See his web site for a detailed comparison.

I say" Why pay an Arm and a Leg for a BMW when you can have a Bike that has so much to offer such as the ST1300?
