| I am in the military and moving to europe in July. I have an opportunity to buy US spec Ducati's at a significant discount from the factory. The dilema is weather to get a 999 or 998. Both models will be biposto. My current thought is to go with the 998, mostly because I like the way it looks better, but also because it is a little cheaper. I know from the reviews that the 999 is by all accounts a better bike(more comfortable, built better, lighter, etc.) but I still like the classic looks of the 998. Can anyone shed some other argumnets that might help sway my descision one way or the other?

| | Kevin, I've ridden both and the 999 is better everywhere it matters: performance. |

| this is an easy dilema 999 all the way. i myself ride a 999 it out performs the 998 as if you were on the 748. the question is have you seen the new 999 or 749? pictures dont do it justice. if you base your purchase on the looks of a SUPERBIKE and not the performance then maybe you shouldnt be riding this bike at all. both these bikes are made to be kicking ass (touching all the rubber to the track). if your a weekend rider then maybe more of a touring bike is the way.

| | If you like the classic looks of the 998 so much, buy yourself a model of it and stick it in your living room. Then go spend the extra $$$ to get the 999. It is just that much better of a bike. |

| | without a doubt 999... I love the look of 998, when i purchased my 999 in april 03' i realized the difference in power, handling and style, it's a comfort no other bike could offer. After a while you'll get used to the style its not bad its just new. If you getting the bike from a factory at low cost...change the plastic into carbon fiber (wow). Then no questions will be asked. Peace |

| | Kevin, I find that the 998 is a better looking bike but the advantages of the 999 sway my decision over to its favor. The 999 is much easier to service, thus less cost for those regular and often valve adjustments, this can save you a ton of money. The riding posistion is much more comfortable and there is hope that the reliability may be better, slightly. All in all the choice is yours but with the advent of the 999, the 998 becomes last years model and thus less desirable by the common man. I wish you luck with either bike and I reccamend you work out your clutch hand.....It's gonna hurt. |

| take the mirrios (front turning signal) and rear license plate holder off from the 999, then, you will totally forget about 998.
