I'm 21 years old, 5'7, 147lbs, and i'm thinking of buying me a motorccyle for Christmas. My dream bike is the Ducati 999r. I'm a new buyer, ne rider, and i like Ducati motorcycles more than any other. Is this supersport 800 a good choice for my first bike? Is the monster 620 dark a better choice? I also would like to know what is the top speed of each, and their 0-60 mph. recorded time. Thank you for your time.

If you've never owned a motorcycle before, the Monster 620 dark is a MUCH better option. The Supersport series has much expensive bodywork that, if dropped, costs an arm, a leg, your first-born, and a handful of pocket lint to repair.

If you have to have a Supersport model, look around (hard) for a 2003 620 Sport. It's a one-model-year only bike that combines the Monster 620's friendly power delivery with the Supersport's sexy bodywork and marvelous suspension and brakes.

The Monster is the better choice and less chance for regrets. With the moderate seating position, you'll be happy and have time to decide if you want to go full on sport (ss 800), or if you prefer a more laid-back feel.
