Nope. Get a cheap used 250 to make your mistakes on, as it is easier to control. Take the MSF course. Above 4000RPM, the Hawk gets mean, and you want some experience before tackling that.

I think it would be a great bike for a beginner. But, I wouldn't call it a beginners bike, as it will not be "out-grown" like many other bikes. My wife is not sure if she wants to ride it because her feet can't touch flat on the ground when sitting. Have you taken the rider safety coarses? Once you have confidence in your riding abilities, the Nighthawk will not dissappoint you. I can't spell that word, can I ? Have a blast.
