| I just bought a XB12S, it is a new 2004 without the race kit (Chip, air filter, muffler). However the bike I rode at the dealer was equipped with the race kit (it uses the K&H filter, ECM, and a custom made muffler, from Latus Harley and Buell in Portland.)
The demo bike was a lot louder, and online I have seen the Latus Muffler compared to the one offered by the buell website and it said the Latus muffler is louder than the buell race muffler. As far as power goes: the modified bike had more torque and felt much more powerfull when I cracked the throttle. I am definitely going to do the mods, and I have already bought the Latus muffler and air box, just waiting for the chip to come in.
I like the sound of the Latus muffler, when you start it I has a deep rumble and is pretty loud… I’m talking about ear plugs for any ride longer than to the corner store. But if you like Harleys it is sweet music. The latus is available online (I cant recall where, I found it doing a web search) for $399.00, that is the same I paid at the dealer. It is an edelbrock painted black with 2 chrome tips and bolts right on. Also online I found a Dyno graph of the power curve showing stock vs. race HP and torque curves. From the looks of the graph you don’t gain to much. But from riding both I though there was a difference. I will post again when I get it all installed with the results I get.
