I am buying a 2002 1100 Honda Spirit. It has drag pipes and new jets but backfires loudly when the throttle is
released. Is this just because of the drag pipes? I've just started searching
for info. Any suggestions on a good set of pipes and jet size?

If your bike back fires a lot what you can do is to plug off the emission air pump, it injects air into the exaust to help lean out the emission.

all the shadows do that to some degree, and with standard pipes you hardley notice it but having the carbs adjusted could help...

I had 2002 1100 Spirit that did just that and found the problem to be with a poor seal at the exhaust port. Ensure proper copper gaskets were used with the new pipes and that they are seating properly once fully bolted on. An air leak will cause a backfire when you release the throttle without clutching.
