| I have ridden both so I will tell you my thoughts. I am 5`7 and I found the 125 a bit high for me (I used to have an RM 125) I currently have a kx 100 and I find the height perfect. in terms of power I see little difference between them - the 100 actually seems peppier at lower gears - the 125 was a bit faster at top gear and a bit better in deep sand.

| | If you have only been riding for a year, I think you should take the 105 to the 125. But it also depends on what type of riding you are doing. If you own a XR 200 you are probably trail riding. So if you plan to trail ride, put a spark arrestor on the 105 and you would have a kick-ass trail bike. But if you plan to race you must consider that the 100cc class does not have as big as a competitive class as do the 85cc and 125cc bikes. Also if you are only 5'4" You would be to small to fit on a 125. Overall: take the 105 SX. |

| | A 105 would be good. The XR is a very reliable bullet proof bike that is like the old school Timex watch and slogan; It takes a licking and keeps on ticking. A 105 would be good until you get used to it and move up from there to a 125 or test ride or ride a friends 100,105 or 125. Be careful when riding the 2-stroke for your first time; The front end likes to come up without much provocation of the clutch and throttle. I had a friend when I was a kid and warned him about his first ride on his first bike and a 78 2-stroke air cooled Yamaha YZ 80 not to snap the throttle and pop the clutch. He pinned the throtle wide open and let the clutch out too fast and flipped the bike backwards fell on his butt and dropped the bike. My other friends and I got a good laugh out of that one. He did not get hurt but his ego did. Start off slow because the 2-strokes are like a turbo charger powerband and take off like a rocket when you open the throttle fast so place a firm grip on the bars, sit as far forward on the seat as possible, hang on and be prepared when you feel the urge to pin the throttle and keep it pinned through all of the gears once I got an idea of what the 80's and 125's were like that I rode. Alot of fun and you might or might not want to ride a 4-stroke ever again. I hope this helps good luck and have fun! |
