| I'm presently interested in getting my first "grown-up" bike (had a Honda CB100 in high school, but this is a little different). I'm inclined to get an older used bike, since I don't really feel like spending a ton of money on a bike that I'll probably put down a few times before I learn what I'm doing, and I've seen a few of these in the local paper. Would this be a good choice? I'm six feet tall, 190 pounds. Thanks.

| | Good choice for you. I am of the sam proportions and I think the CB750 or CB900 would be excellent for you without spending a bunch of cash |

| | I bought a 1981 cb750c ten years ago. I've since put 20K miles on it commuting and touring and have added a solo seat and windshield. It's a nice bike that can keep up on the interstate when necessary (though it's a little buzzy at higher speeds) and is powerful enough to ride two-up. If you want to carry a lot of gear, though, you might want a 900 or a Wing. My second choice after this would be a Kaw KZ1000P Police Bike. I get lots of compliments on my cb750c, though and I am about the same proportions as you are. It's a sporty bike that looks nice in a custom-cruiserish sort of way. The shim-under-bucket valves are a pain to adjust. Try to get a lower mileage bike that doesn't have much wear on the cam chains. They don't run as well when the chains get stretched. Parts and accessories appear regularly on ebay. |
