Hey is there anyway to reduce the gas usage of this model of yamaha virago 250? Because somehow it is burning up 50mpg city miles. I thought this 250 suppose to only burn 60 or 70mpg city.

Accellerate slowly, shift early (I can't do it). Change front sprocket from 16 tooth to 17 tooth, replace 45 tooth rear sprocket with 38 tooth and enjoy 20 % increase in fuel economy and top speed.

Do you have to replace the chain going from the stock configuration to 38T rear/17T front sprockets? Just ordered these from bikebandit and wanted to make sure I wouldn't need a new chain. Bike only has 800 miles on it, and is 4 months old. TIA

Hello Dean:

Earlier you posted the following:
>Accellerate slowly, shift early (I can't do it). Change front
>sprocket from 16 tooth to 17 tooth, replace 45 tooth rear
>sprocket with 38 tooth and enjoy 20 % increase in fuel economy
>and top speed.

I am thinking of trying the 17/38 sprocket combination on my V Star 250 (Virago 250). Does your Virago-250 accellerate ok in 1st gear? Is there any clutch slippage with the 17/38 sprockets?
