| The sportster is a unique bike - it's hard to answer your question without knowing your skill level and riding intentions. In general you sit high on the sportster, and it has a high center of gravity. Lean angle is good, a lot of vibration when you get over 55 mph thanks to the solid mount engine. If you intend to do a lot of highway riding, the 1200 is a must, also less vibration on this bike. If you are not experienced, or if you are looking for a cruiser, I would not reco the sportster to you. Good luck.

| | I totally dissagree with the post about 1200 being smoother, this is not true, the 883 IS smoother than the 1200, also the 883 with a 1200 wiseco kit will waste any 1200.A sporty is a good beginners bike but repairs are expensive. |
