I recently got into a near fatal motorcycle accident with my Yamaha V star 650. I still wanna ride, but my motorcycle got completely trashed, and I might be getting a lot of money from the guy that hit me. I loved my 650, it was perfect for my around town trips i.e. light and handled well. However I could feel the small engine size on speeds more than 55 mph. I would love a new bike to still get the great gas/mileage I've been getting, and still handle quite well around a city, but have more power for the long highway/interstate cruises. I was wondering if anyone would share their experiences and personal choices of bigger bikes. Thanks.

[size=2]Hey Guy....I'm sorry you went down, and it's sad that you totaled your bike.
You're alive, so let's be thankful for that!

I know what you mean when you say that your Yammie doesn't have the power to cruise easily on the highway. I had a 2000 ZF600R that I felt was too slow for the highway also. I checked out a lot of bikes, but didn't want something too big, and finally settled on one that has an incredibly easy ride and Lots of power on the highway.
I found a 2002 Ridley Speedster. I'd never heard of them, so I checked them out, and found out that they are made in Oklahoma and are fully automatic!
They have a 633cc V-twin engine that sounds like a Harley, but have baffles to quiet it down. I took it out on the highway and it runs like a striped ape! I had it up to 60mph and it wasn't even straining! I took it up to 85, and I know it could have gone a little faster.
They've been making them since '95 and stopped in 2005 and started making a full-size bike called an Auto-Glide. It has a 750cc V-Twin also.
The Speedster is really quick on take-off because it has 10.5:1 compression. I found out that they only made 30 bikes that had the high compression. All the others are 8.5:1.

I just thought I'd let you know about Ridleys. I believe that you'd really like them. Just go to a dealer and ride one.

Take Care!
