| | This is my first street bike, I'm dead set on a 600, i either want a 2008 gsxr600 or 2008 Yamaha r6,either way, i got quoted on insurance and it was outrageous, does anyone know ways around that? i hear that state farm, farmers, or Allstate is the choices to go with. Does anyone else have any suggestions? |

| The general consensus from "most" riders is.....more often than not, either GEICO or Progressive will offer the best MC coverage for the money, usually for much less than those companies you had mentioned, a couple of which are in the "highest" premium category.

| | well i actually contacted progressive and they quoted me for full coverage, the annual premium was a little over 7000 dollars just for a year. I know there has to be a way around paying that much for insurance because so many people have them! |

Something isn't right here. I'm not sure what kind of driving record you have, but what you say makes no sense, whatsoever. There has to be "more to the story" here than what has been told.
Many riders I know don't pay much more than that for their bike, let alone insurance. Personally, having all fairly new vehicles, I'm insuring my wife's car, my SUV, a 1300 cc bike, a $4,500 MC trailer and a 150 cc scooter, all with higher than normal limits. Altogether, our prem is about $1200/yr (again, "total"). |

| | No man i have no tickets, no accidents on my record or anything, it is my first bike and i'm 21 years old, they quoted me at a really high price, when they told me that i thought some thing was really wrong bc for them to make someone pay that much for insurance, no one would be able to drive a motorcycle and carry full coverage! |

| Morg's right, 7000 is insanely high for gixxer sixxer from progressive. check their rates online, or with another agent. also, check state farm if (and only if) your record is clean for the last 5 years. they offer good rates (or at least they used to) for sport bikes due to the fact that they go by displacement, not bike type, so a GSXR 600 should actually cost less to insure than a much less agressive and likely safer GSX 650F, just because its got a 50cc smaller motor. (again this used to be the case back when I had state farm, it may have changed since, but I've gone only 4 years each between my last 3 speeding tickets, so they won't sell me bike insurance.) That's how they keep their rates low, by not insuring those with even a small risk level. Those tickets were all in a car too, not even on a bike.

| I set up online at Progressive as a fictitious 21 year old with a clean record, getting an 08 GSXR600 in Wisconsin (which could make a big difference depending where you live) with $500 deductibles for comprehensive and collision, and un and underinsured coverage, and coverage for up to $3000 worth of accessories, and it came to just over $2900 annual premium.
