| What is the gas mileage I should be getting? When the gas light came on I only got about 15 miles before it started running out of gas. I thought I had .8 gallons left but I must be getting less than 20 mpg.
What should gas mileage should I expect?

| Those posts I've read in another forum [and, there are more than 32,000 of them on the 1600 Nomad alone] have stated that their Vulcan 1600s were mostly getting from 32 to 42 mpg, depending upon how much they use their right wrists and their riding conditions. They mentioned their mileage being much less when the bike was new and gradually improved as their bikes were being broken in.
Your comments suggest that you're not actually "filling up," but are just adding gas, perhaps to around the bottom area of the filler neck in your tank. The tank holds at least another .5 to .6 gal additional gal of gas after that point until its level is about 1/2 to 3/4 up inside the neck. While the tank "states" a 5.3 gal capacity, some have filled up adding 5.1 to 5.2 gal.
Stay well.

| | Thanks, I am keeping a closer view on my gas mileage. It is a new bike with only 750 miles. |

| George,
I have an '06 1500 Classic. The gas gauge and low-fuel light are peculiar on these bikes. My gauge will show 1/2 full after 150 miles then drop down to the low-fuel light over the next 25 miles. Very strange. Then, when I fill it up, it'll only take 3.5 gallons. This happens all the time.
I have 19,000 miles on her and I've consistently gotten 47 mpg on the freeway. I sometimes get 50, never below 45. The Nomad from what I've read is a bit of a pig, mid to high 30s at best. The 1600 Classic doesn't do very well either, which makes no sense 'cause it's only 15 lbs. heavier than the 1500. But for some reason your engine likes gas. I went with the 1500 for this very reason. You have a beautiful bike there but sorry to say she likes to drink.
