| Hey y'all,
just bought what i thought was an 08 special ed. mean streak.
i was looking to purchase a new bike to upgrade from my 650 v-star.
no regrets, the 1600 rides pretty good, just breaking it in...
Here's my question to all of you who care to comment. All of the paper work with the bike states that it is a 2008 model; the registration, the loan paper work, the inspection receipt... However the sticker on the side of the frame has a date of 2007.
When the sales person told me that it was a 2008 i just took his word for it, I mean i love the bike and if he would have told me that it was a 2007 model it would not have made a difference.
Right now i am in the middle of a 2000 plus trip on the bike, just figured this little mishap.
I've had the bike for a little over 3 weeks, what do you think my options here are? what would you do if you were in my shoes?
Thanks in advance...

If I'm "hearing" you correctly, the fact that the sticker on the bike says 2007 has no bearing on its model year. That may just be the actual "build date," rather than the model year of the bike. Most bikes have stamped on it the month and year it was built, along with the build number....meaning...if it says 629, it was the 629th bike of of that exact model manufactured for that model year.
Otherwise, it would be either a blatent case of fraud and misrepresentation, or purely a bad mistake, but I cannot imagine for a second it being either one. Check further and I believe you'll find it to be the "build date."
Be well and enjoy your great new 2008 bike.

| agreed, the build date and the model year are often not the same on most vehicles. Last September (2007), I'd have been able to buy an '08 car of almost any model, that was clearly not built in the future. Its the same with bikes, even though the release of them is usually in the winter of their model year, they were built before that, thus having a build date of the prior year.

| Here is a very simple way of telling if you have the 07 or 08 model year of the Mean Streak Special Addition. The 07 has a matte black paint finish on the tank and fenders, with a flame pattern. The 08 model has a high gloss metallic black finish on the tank and fenders, with no flames.
This should be a very simple way to determine what year.
I just purchased an 08 leftover in the past 3 weeks, and love the bike!
Safe riding, and enjoy your MS, I do.... |
