| I'm in the market for a new bike, mostly for commuting to school and back, and weekend canyon fun with friends.
My history: I started on a 250r, then a zzr600, and my most recent bike that I had to sell over a year ago was an '03 ZX-9R. I've also had considerable experience with the R1 and ZX-10R, but never "owned" either.
I've ridden for about 5-6 years so I'm not new, however I haven't been on a bike in over a year.
As far as commuting, I just want something comfortable, and that can keep up on the highway, and pass with relatively ease if I need to.
However, I'm worried this bike won't be enough for weekend canyon fun with friends. My last bike was a 9R which has almost double the power of the 650r, but older technology and non-fuel injected (I live in Utah, so carb vs fuel-injected makes a very noticeable difference).
I obviously don't expect the bike to have the pickup of the 900, however if it is anywhere near my old zzr600 then I will be happy. I don't want to get the bike and sell it next season because it wasn't enough.
What do you guys think? |

| it sounds like you either want a good commuter that is very sporty, or a sport bike that you can commute on. There are few bikes that are an even combination, and excel at being both of those things. Everything I've seen and heard says the the Ninja 650, and the SV650S are as close to that as you can get. I don't have personal experience with those bikes, but they'd be the first ones I looked at if I was looking for what you described.
