hello,
Am looking at getting back into riding again after 16 years I;ve narrowed it down to 4 bikes but i cant find a lot about the gas mileage,
so was wondering what kind of mileage the 1500 classic gets and if any one has one with windshield and saddle bags am sure that will affect the mileage. me and the wife want to get back into riding so want something comfortable the 4 bikes are the Vulcan 1500 , hondas vtx 1300T, Suzuki C90T and the V star 1300 tourer so appreciate any advise. pros or cons on any of these four bikes,
thanks

All 4 bikes mentioned are nice bikes....definitely different, but nice. I also looked at 3 of these bikes, but also the Kawi Vulcan 1600 Nomad, along with a few more makes and models very, very closely. In one way, as I often say, choosing a bike is a little like choosing the flavor ice cream you like most. There's really no bad choices here, just different ones.

For several reasons, I'm a believer in both fuel injection & liquid cooling, which FOR ME eliminated the VTX. One of a couple of issues with the Suzuki is its very small gas tank and limited range. The Vulcan Nomad, a beautiful bike and great highway cruise, is also a fair to mediocre slow-speed bike at best. The Yammy 1300T does most everything extraordinarily well, from handling, to comfort, to smoothness, to performance, etc. It gets 46-55 mpg using regular fuel, the range being dependent upon how you ride and how much you use that right wrist. I like and prefer mint chocolate chip ice cream. I also like and prefer the V Star 1300T. saying this after having owned lots and lots of bikes over the years.

Do your research, then choose what YOU want and like for all of the reasons that are important to YOU.

I have a 2006 Vulcan 1500 with windshield, hardbags, etc. I moved up from an 1100 Yamaha a few years ago. Regarding gas mileage, I consistently get 46-48 mpg on the freeway, cruising at 75 mph. The only changes I made to the engine were pipes (V&H Longshots) and a K&N filter. That seems to be about average for the 1500. The 1600, from what I've read, gets on average 5 to 8 mpg less, but it's a hell of a bike and the claim that it's "slow" is just absurd.
If you're planning alot of freeway riding with a passenger, you'd be making a mistake to buy anything smaller than a 1500. The Vulcan 1500 is a great bike; it's been around for years and it's bulletproof. I'd say the same about the Suzuki. I'd also consider the Yamaha Roadstar, now that it's fuel injected. But I wouldn't consider the Yamaha 1300. You're going to find that engine too small for the freeway. Good luck.

re: But I wouldn't consider the Yamaha 1300. You're going to find that engine too small for the freeway.

It's time for me to comment here. The V Star 1300 has more power and performance than any metric cruise made less under 1700cc, which includes the Kawi 1500 or 1600. Highway riding, it shines, regardless of whether riding alone or 2-up. The Vulcan is an excellent bike, and one I actually considered early on, but it neither handles anywhere near the 1300 V Star, nor is it even close to being equal in performance...city, highway, twisties, etc. Perhaps, these are just a few reasons it was chosen as the best new bike value on the market in 2007. Plus, mileage between 45-58 mpg, depending upon how often and far one twists that little thing on the right side of the handlebars.

Okay, I'm done now. : )

emond...first, don't show your colors. That was unnecessary.
Second, name an exception to that prior statement.
