you should inform the Polaris dealership that there is a solution for this. A kit is available with new plastic and a new heat shield that will fix the problem.

My husband has a 2007 sportsman 800 with the same right side melting. Same reply from Dealership as yourself. I saw the reply about the kit, how did it work. Did they acknowledge and fix for you and if so did they know what type of kit and where to get?
Any help would be grateful as it is a great machine otherwise and hate to see such a thing take away from such an awesome machine.

I haven't noticed any melting on my 08 800 yet, but it sure gets hot on the leg with no airflow to cool things down!!!

I have a 2007 sportsman 800 deluxe with about 80 hours on it. I have noticed the heat on the right as well. Last week, after riding it for twenty minutes into the woods down a dirt road, I turned it off and got off to do some scouting. I walk away for about five minutes, when I returned to it, I found it on fire. It burned completely to the ground. Have you heard of any catching fire?
