| what type of temps are you getting?
my 03 GSXR-1000 gets to about 220 before the fan kicks in if its idling in traffic, runs at about 170-180 during most of the time when moving

| | my 04 636 was idling at about 217 temp sitting in my shed with the doors open bc the weather is not very great here in ohio and i wanted it out of the shed and on my indoor porch bc of the neighbor hood so i drove it down the road bc the road was dry but cold ... first time i ever rode one so i was kinda gettin anxious to do it.... and i didnt wanna ride it with out warming it up , so i let it idle and seen the temp said about 220 and i wasnt sure if it was because it was in the shed but i had the doors open , or somethign was wrong , i dont kno what the temp is while riding bc like i said the weather sucks and i just bought it road it about 30 feet to the house so i didnt have to push it through the yard up a wet muddy hill .. thansk for your help man ... |

| that temp after a long idle should be fine, and it is normal that it didn't come down after just a few feet riding.

| accwhse.com, motorcycleusa.com, kneedraggers.com, motosport.com are some of my most used parts sites.
the "lever thingy" you describe sounds like it is the choke. it changes the fuel mixture and amount to help a cold bike start. when its turned so the bike is revving high and sounds like it wants to take off, that is when its on. it should only be on if it is having trouble starting or warming up because the bike is cold. it should be turned down, and then off as the bike warms up and begins to idle well on its own. you should never ride with the choke on at all. if you need it to start or warm a cold bike, make sure to turn it off once its warm, and before you start riding.
I've never done plastic repair, so I'm afraid I can't help you there. depending on how good you want it to look, there's probably a wide range of technique. for a quick, crappy job, I'd duct tape it on the inside, leaving a visible crack on the outside, but at least holding it together. But I probably wouldn't just leave it at that.
