Hi I have been riding for about 12 years. I have always rode cruisers in the past. I recently purchased an 06 katana 600 as I was looking to get into sport bikes and I have a couple of questions. One thing is the shifter seems super stiff compared to all the other bikes I have ridden. Also the rpms I am turning at 65 (about 4500) seems high compared to the cruisers i have ridden in the past. Is this normal for sportbikes? Hate to sound stupid but sportbikes are a whole new thing to me. Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

the rpm you note for that speed is normal (I'm assuming you're in 6th gear). in fact, that's lower than my 95 Kat 600 at the same speed. yes, a sportier bike will run at higher rpm in general. As far as the shifter, as long as it is shifting consistently, not staying out of gear, or too difficult to shift, then this is also normal for this bike. It is likely just a matter of getting used to the different bike.

high rpm's are the norm for sport bikes. Their designed for performance and they perform better at high rpm. Especially compared to a road bike. Lots of bikers bring the rpm up to the red line, that's not bad.
