| I just got my T100 a day ago and put about 40 miles on it. As I was stuck in traffic, the header pipes turned red hot and began smoking. Is this normal "break in?" or should I be concerned?

| This is normal for Triumph's. The older ones got hot turned colors within a few hours of ownership. My 2000 Thunderbird pipes discolored within my first hour of ownership. Enjoy!

| Hi Paul,
My new '04 Bonny's header pipes grow red hot when I let the bike warm up in the morning. It's dark when I leave for work, so the red pipes are easy to see. You can minimize this, as well as the bluing of the header pipes, by installing an Air Injection System Removal Kit. Go to New Bonneville.com to find out more.......cost is around $30. I removed the AI on my bike, used 'Blue Away' polish on the header pipes, and haven't had a problem since.
The 'smoking' you describe is from any residue/film left on the bike from the manufacturing and shipping processes......
Triumph coats their bikes with a substance (which I've been told is called 'Cosmoleen') before crating to protect the metal and paint finishes from the elements while the bike is being shipped. The dealer removes the coating during the 'prep' operation before you take delivery. Any residue will evaporate off as the bike heats up during the first couple of runs.
Also check out BellaCorse.com for new Bonneville parts and accessories.

| yes - it's because of the air injection system which burns unused fule in the pipes. You can get a kit to eliminate it. Do a google on 'AI elimination kit bonneville'
