Hi,
my name is Kent and I recently purchased (end of May) a 2007 V-Star 1100 Silverado. I have really enjoyed this bike and have now logged approximately 1000 miles on it.
One question that I might ask to those of you that ride a V-Star 1100 is concerning the gears, specifically, 1st gear.
I seem to have a problem that I'm not sure if it requires repair or not.
When approaching a stop, I will engage the clutch and shift down a couple of clicks into first gear. When going to start out, I frequently find the bike in neutral and have to click down once again, sometimes twice, in order to get it back into first gear. I don't know why this would happen, as I make sure that I have clicked down all of the way into first gear when I pull up to a stop.
This is my first motorcycle, but my brother who has ridden for many years says this is not normal. The guys at the dealership tell me this is normal so I don't know who is giving me the straight story. Being a new rider, I need some guidance from some of you that have ridden, possibly experiencing the same thing with their V-Star 1100's. I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,
Kent

Kent, I've had this happen infrequently, so I know what you mean, but if it is happening all the time I would say something is wrong. If you have trouble actually getting it into 1st, try letting out on the clutch a little -- it usually goes into gear then. Steve

Hi Kent -

I've got an '02 1100 and don't recall it happening with me, but when both my wife and daughter were learning to ride, they both had this issue. They no longer do. Something might be wrong, but my experience is that you get a better feel for it with time - enough where it is really rare.

Can somebody shed some more light on this, same thing has happened to me a few times, my sales man looked at me like I was crazy, I'm wondering if it has to do with the adjustment on the clutch
