| | I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger bike that is good for everyday commuting as well as long trips. This 1300 Tourer has caught my eye. Is the windshield removable or no? |

| | I just got the 1300 last week. The windshield is removable as are the saddle bags if you want to ride occasionally more in the cruiser mode. I love the bike so far! |

| If you get the stock Yamaha windshield it is best to remove it and sell it to some sucker on ebay. The turbulence behind this windshield is terrible. rain bugs and dirt will blow right up your face shield. you cant go over 60 mph cause you won't be able to see with the wind in your eyes. The wind will continually knock your head around. Lowers wont help. the windshield must be tilted back almost to the handlebars plus have lowers to stop your head from getting knocked around.
I'm having engine trouble also. the engine jerks badly when the speed drops below 20 mph on level ground at a constant speed. when you go into a parking lot, school zone, etc you are gonna get jerked around. Some of these bikes don't do this but some do. mine does and the dealer wont try to fix it. he says it's normal for a engine to run terrible. you better pass on this bike.
they try to tell me the bike is geared high. bull dookey. what fool would build a short stroke high reving engine and gear it high. I haven't seen the ratios but it doesn't seem to be geared high to me. the friggen engine just jerks. I think it's not getting a proper fuel mix at near closed throttle and the ignition timing might be on the high side for high reving. I don't like this motorcycle because of this. |

| I have had my tourer for over 2 months and taken a few long trips already and have had no problems. The bike does not like to go slow though as you will need to work through the gears a bit around town but at cruising speeds, you will be of so happy!!!
I think that there are a few people that have had issues, maybe with the early releases but I have had no problems at all with mine.
If you read all the reviews on this bike, you will see that it beats all the competition! Go ahead and buy, you won't be sorry!

| Timmy,
I agree - my new Tourer is also terrific in so many areas. I've only added the RSTD bars and ISO grips, also the Kuryakyn Plug n Play Run-Turn-Brake Controller, plus the fact that I tilted my shield back so that I now look over it rather than through it.
If you're unfamiliar with this site, you will enjoy being a part of the thousands of messages shared by owners of the 1300 at: http://forums.delphiforums.com/vstar1300/messages . It's excellent.
You'll need to register (free), but what a great site it's been for me to learn what others have experienced regarding almost every topic you can think of pertaining the 1300.
Enjoy your great bike.

| I agree. I have added the engine guards and highway pegs, ISO grips, passenger floorboards to keep the wife happy, and new brake cover.
I have been tossed up on what to do with the windshield and saw the posts on the other forum on how to tilt the shield back. I like to take it off from time to time so I am debating on a medium switchblade.
I really want new exhast but we have limited options right now if you want to keep a 2-1 system.
Thanks! |

| I tilted my shield back, then secured it and it works great, as I now look "over" it, a necessity, rather than through it. I am now waiting for my Roadhouse Brand slip-ons, which are to be shipped from the manufacturer to the distributors today and tomorrow, after about a 6 week delay when they became back ordered. A pure guess is that I'll get it within a couple of weeks. I'm getting the standard baffle, but they also offer a louder "performance" baffle. If I feel that I need (want) that, I'll get it later. I also wanted to maintain the 2 into 1 look, especially with the bags, plus the fact that Yamaha upper pipes are made so doggone well that I didn't want to replace them. Enjoy your bike.

| Its not removable like the "switchblade" brand but I am sure it could be removed. I plan on changing mine from the tall to the short. The tall is great to have for cold weather riding but it does seem excessively tall for this bike.
In either case the 1300 tourer is a great bike and I am sure you will enjoy it. |

| I think you received a lemon pal. This bike is geared high (check American motorcyclist and Motorcycle cruiser mags for details) compared to other medium cruisers.
I have had my 1300 for 2750 trouble free miles; it is my 4th bike and I would gladly purchase another.
Instead of telling others to avoid this brand of bike maybe you should consider the fact that you're the unfortunate victim of a bad dealer who refuses to take care of his customer.
All motorcycle manufactures, at times allow lemons too slip threw and guys like you and me are forced to deal with it. That doesn't mean that the entire model sucks. Both the star 1300 and the 1300 tourer have had great reviews from the media and from owners.
Sorry for your situation and I hope you get compensated accoringly
Keep the rubber down. |
