I'm looking to buy my first bike. I currently have practically NO experience riding whatsoever, and I would really like some advice to help me decide what to buy.

Ideally, I would like something more like a cruiser, or possibly a standard. I'm not really interested in the whole crotch rocket scene..
I've been thinking of an older 650cc V-star or a Virago or something similar. I'm going to be doing some freeway driving, so I need something safe enough and stable enough to handle it. And I'm 6'1" and about 220lbs.

I know more about sport bikes, but it stands to reason that the most important factor in choosing a cruiser for a new rider would be the bike weight. The lighter the better to help with the controllability and confidence, especially at lower speeds.
