I want to learn to ride. I am starting from scratch. Would it be unreasonable to learn on this bike? Would someone 6'2" 215lbs be comfortable on this bike?
Your site is fantastic! Thanks

Although I've not ridden this particular bike (I own a '00 Cyclone), I would recommend doing something similar to what I did. I initially learned on an old (cheap) cruiser, and then stepped up to a more powerful sportbike after a few years. This way you have more time to get familiar with riding in general before you take on the world. It'll also give you a better idea of what your riding style is before you plop a bunch of $$ on a bike that may or may not 'fit'. In my case, I kept the cruiser, and still enjoy taking it out for relaxed 'enjoy the scenery' rides from time to time.

although i would not say that you cannot learn on this bike i would recommend learning on something less expensive to start. i own the 2004 12s and although it does not match the japanese bikes for pure speed it does get up there and someone just starting may have trouble with the throttle. as for your comfort you may be a little big for this bike's frame, go to a dealer and see how it fits you.

like most im not rich, so with me i had to pick a bike that not only i could afford but also insurance i could afford. the payment is 135.00 and the insurance is 750.00 per year for me, compared to the other bike i wanted which was the suzuki tl1000s with a payment of about 250.00 and insurance at 4000.00 per year. (yep $4000.00 per year with no tickets or accidents) my insurance agent and four others told me racing sportbikes are payout items for them... anyways the 04 xb12s is the first bike ive ever bought new and its incredible. i am 6'4" 280lbs and im just a little cramped on it but still comfortable. they adjusted the foot controls for me down about 1" from stock otherwise i couldnt work them without lifting my feet off the pegs which blows! the power of this bike is awesome and the looks incredible. if a new rider was to buy this i would recommend to buy a brand new bike. the dealers are very helpful and the break in tach rules give you time to learn the bike a little before you can get into it. i would also strongly recommend taking a sport bike riders course. ive ridden for about 20 years but mostly enduros so i still have a lot to learn about sport bikes. i am signing up for classes now so i can learn more about the safety and tecniques of riding sports bikes. the other reason i have for getting a buell is the friendliness and support of the other buell and harley owners. its pretty cool to pull up next to a group of hardcore harley riders on a sport bike and have them checking your bike out and asking questions about that harley power plant, (its not quite the same when you pull up next to them on a rice rocket). all in all for a first bike the xb12s is more than a handful but if youre careful and take some riding classes it'll probably be the only bike you ever own. also on a buell you get into brag, the buell riders adventure group, its a club with local chapters but it also means youre also welcome at all h.o.g. events. Buell, made in America...
