| MOTORCYCLIST Magazine got 163.1 hp to the rear wheel. The 998cc engine has been said to produce around 180 to 185 crank hp(5 hp coming from the ram air induction probably at the TOP speed.) This model, the second generation ZX-10R of course, got a slight increase in power mostly from changing the drive to the generator. The 04-05 bike's generator was driven directly by the clutch whereas the new engine has a set of gears driving the generator which, Kawasaki claims, freed up 1 to 3 horsepower. The intake valve diameter was reduced by 1mm to create a more linear torque curve, this was done mostly to reduce power-on wheelies for which the old bike was notorious. The injectors, pistons, rods, blah blah blah, those were all new for 2006 as well. The bottom line is the quarter mile time was improved by 0.3 to 1.1 seconds depending on who you talk to.

| I forgot to mention that the slightly higher peak torque, 84ish as opposed to 80ish, is now reached at 8000 rpm instead of the previous engine's 9750 rpm. This combined with the same peak power rpm of 12,000 makes the engine much easier to ride on the street, you now have much more rpm to effectively use rather than keeping it around 10,000

| Sorry, its actually 8500 rpm not 8000. And just for fun: the '06 bike gained 12 pounds.
